LGI was present at the IUCN World Conservation Congress on September 7th in Marseille, France, a key global event that drives action on nature-based recovery, climate change and biodiversity for the decades to come. Joanne Schanté spoke at the European Pavilion, where she co-presented the draft White Paper on the Nature-based Economy with other members of the Nature-Based Economy Working Group of Network Nature Task Force 3 : IUCN, College of Dublin and the University of Bocconi. The session sparked interest and passionate debates regarding the concept of a nature-based economy and its connection with other concepts (nature capital, nature positive economy, ecosystem based, etc.). It was also an occasion to share the results of our study for l’ADEME and the ARTISAN Life Project on how to address barriers and enablers to accelerate nature-based enterprises and unlock the NBS market. The IUCN World Conservation Congress closed with the publication of the Marseille Manifesto calling for a post-Covid recovery based on nature. Our takeaways:

– Accelerate the transition to a nature-positive economy

– Invest in Nature-based Solutions

– Better understand transformed ecosystems

– Commit to an ambitious and interconnected conservation network
