PUMMA

Plutonium Management for More Agility

The PUMMA project was an initiative selected by the European Commission with the aim to delineate various strategies for Plutonium (Pu) management within Generation-IV nuclear systems. It assessed how these strategies affected the entire fuel cycle, and scrutinized their implications on safety and performance. Furthermore, PUMMA established a connection between Europe and other international organizations, integrating fuel cycle studies from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Generation-IV system insights from the European Sustainable Nuclear Industrial Initiative (ESNII) and Generation IV International Forum (GIF), as well as fuel material studies from the OECD.
