Sub-seasonal to Seasonal climate forecasting for Energy

The large-scale deployment of renewable energy (RE) is a key enabler for achieving the emissions reduction targets of the Paris Agreement. Despite being cost-competitive, RE adoption is limited due to its variability.

The Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC) led a project to develop an innovative service that improves RE variability management using sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) climate predictions. The main output is a tool that forecasts RE production and electricity demand for the upcoming weeks and months.

In this context, LGI assessed the market for climate services in renewable energies and designed an appropriate business strategy.
