Working from home and its effect on our carbon emissions

The current health crisis has had a profound impact on LGI, particularly in the way we work. Microsoft Team and Zoom meetings have completely replaced physical travel to our partners’ or clients’ premises.

We made a comparison between our air travel in 2019 and 2020, taking into account the diversity of destinations thanks to the calculator made available by the French government. According to these calculations, we emitted 11.4 tonnes of CO2 in 2020 compared to 1.4 tonnes in 2019 – that’s a reduction of 87.7%. It should be noted that this estimate only takes into account our air travel in 2019 and 2020, as the impact of our very few travels by train or car are negligible.

While the health crisis has been difficult on many levels, one positive aspect is that it has forced us to innovate, bringing LGI closer to its carbon neutrality objectives that are in line with its status as a mission-driven company. As clients and partners have become more familiar with an online mode of operation, we anticipate that we—and the world—will continue to travel less than before, even after the health crisis has passed. This is very good news for climate , given the global impact of the aviation sector on climate change accounts for 2,5% of CO2 emissions, equivalent to 3.5% of the effective radiative forcing.
