LGI Sustainable Innovation, in collaboration with the LEAP-RE project, recently marked a milestone in advancing renewable energy solutions in Africa. Supported by a dynamic partnership of African and European institutions, LEAP-RE seeks to bridge the energy gap in Africa whilst fostering sustainable, affordable energy access. During a high-impact pitching session hosted at Politecnico di Milano in October 2024, eight groundbreaking projects, selected for their readiness and market potential, were presented to an international audience comprising investors, industry leaders, and stakeholders. This event, co-moderated by LGI and PAUWES representatives, was a testament to the vibrant synergy between innovation and the drive for an inclusive energy transition.
The showcased projects underscored Africa's potential in leveraging renewable energy for sustainable growth. Highlights included initiatives like the Geothermal Atlas for Africa (GAA), mapping geothermal resources; PURAMS, offering solar cooking solutions; and SolChargE, revolutionising rural transport through solar charging stations. Projects like RE4AFAGRI and SHE emphasised renewable energy's transformative impact on agriculture and low-emission cooking. Meanwhile, LEOPARD and SUNSAFE II showcased scalable solar mini-grids and enhanced solar systems, with LEDSOL presenting UV/LED technology for clean water solutions. These initiatives are not just technologically innovative but also aligned with the strategic priorities of the LEAP-RE programme, focusing on sustainability, market readiness and scalability.
The pitches received overwhelming interest, highlighting the maturity and relevance of the projects.
