More than 75% of Earth’s land is degraded, the ocean has lost half of its living coral reefs, and we have seen nearly a 70% decline in wildlife population in just 50 years.
Urgent action is needed to retore ecosystems, promote sustainable agriculture, and build a nature-positive economy that benefits both people and the planet:
To address these urgent environmental challenges, LGI’s approach integrates Nature-based Solutions (NbS) with socio-economic and environmental impact analysis, ensuring both effectiveness and scalability. We work on sustainable innovation, economic viability – including green and impact finance as well as nature-positive investments - and multi-stakeholder collaboration to drive long-term change. We develop strategies for ecosystem restoration, climate resilience and regenerative business models, focusing on five topics: soil health and sustainable agriculture; biodiversity; NbS; air quality; and marine & freshwater systems. By bridging science, policy and finance, we aim to create solutions that not only restore nature but also foster a thriving, sustainable economy.
We are committed to ensuring that Nature's voice is heard and meaningfully integrated into decision-making. That’s why we prioritise embedding nature-positive action across all areas of our work. Through vibrant communication campaigns, we also spread the message that—beyond the challenges we face to restore our ecosystems—nature is fundamentally part of the solution.
SOILL-Startup contributes to the EU Mission “A soil Deal for Europe” aiming to achieve healthy soils by 2030. The project supports a network of 100 Soil Health Living Labs and Lighthouses across Europe - including through capacity-building, tools and knowledge exchange. It also facilitates collaboration between stakeholders with SOILL Hub, a digital platform powered by LGI.
